The Journey without Railings

Like a passing reflection in a shopkeepers window
How clearly I see myself
I look sidewise, try to grasp a glimpse
But the shifting image slips away

How is it the only eyes I can’t meet are mine
The face I fear in these funhouse mirrors
What if they echo back "unloved"?
I am the person it feels impossible to know

There's only One who fully knows my soul
The "me" within all my adaptations
Born broken into a shattered world
A murky kaleidoscope of waters

Yet I'm told I was made in Your image too
Let us look to the perfect looking glass
We will see "flawed, loved, I will restore you"
The journey without railings goes within
